Vincent Square, Westminster.
Talbot were contracted to improve the surfaces and functionality of four football pitches and a cricket pitch at Vincent Square, Westminster, London.
We achieved three goals delivering a new pitch for Wantage FC. Good ground preparation, solid delivery of the project tasks to timetable and an excellent surface installed for future performances.
Following handover of the land from the main contractor, we applied a non-residual total herbicide to manage volunteer weed growth following the fallow period.
We then decompacted the soil and applied our specialist lazer grade equipment.
Within the topsoil drainage preparation we excavated trenches and laid pipes in accordance with the architects requirements. We backfilled the trenches to specification including gravel to 35mm and sand to 15m depths.
We installed a land drainage outlet and second tier drainage to the upper topsoil with our Vibra-sandmaster which de-compacts and adds surface drainage to the soil profile all in one pass. The sand bands were graduated at 20mm wide and spaced 260mm apart to a depth of 150mm.
The topsoil was cultivated to 150mm and we supplied and spread some 1,000 m3 medium grade sand to the surface topsoil preparing a 20mm deep pitch plateau and immediate surrounds using a bulk hopper, PTO powered top dressing machine.
We followed this with application of fertiliser ameliorants and worked the pre seed fertiliser into the upper soil profile. Prior to seeding we undertook a seed bed preparation using a gate grader and Cambridge roller.
The Dwaft Amenity Rye for Winter Sports seed mixture was supplied and sowed at a rate of 35 g /m.

Maintenance and Quality Control
Talbot Landscapes remained on hand to support the ongoing agronomic maintenance, including mowing, fertilising, overseeding, aeration and top dressing with sand.
Immediately prior to handover, the pitch received independent assessment from a RIPTA member to Sport England Quality Standards.
